Wildfire season in the Rocky Mountain region is expected to be below, or near, average in 2016, according to experts.

The Rocky Mountain Area Coordination Center (RMACC) posted Tuesday its first official .

Fire forecasters point to a “significantly wetter than average” April, among other factors, in calling for a favorably in comparison to some recent years, including 2012.

The “outlook takes into account seasonal indicators such as precipitation, snowpack average, temperatures, wind, plant and soil moisture, and the timing of green-up,” the RMACC said in a release. The data and forecasts support “a below average to near average fire season in 2016.”
