Just chatted with Grandview baseball coach Scott Henry … and Saturday’s game at Mullen is back to starting in the afternoon, at 2 p.m.
Originally, the Centennial League finale between the Wolves and the host Mustangs in Class 5A was to be at 2:30 p.m.
However, with the threat of weather in an already wild spring of snow, cold, wind and rain, and the postseason looming after cramming multiple games into a short period, officials considered moving the game to first pitch at 11 a.m. Obtaining umpires for the new starting time proved fruitless, Henry said, so officials decided to go back near the original starting time and play at 2 p.m.
The game is big in many ways, including from a playoff-seeding standpoint. Grandview is 14-4 overall, 11-2 in league. Mullen is 13-5, also 11-2 in league. Potentially, the Centennial could have a tie through multiple ways — Cherokee Trail (12-4 overall), also is 11-2 in league and hosts Smoky Hill (8-10, 3-10) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
