An argument between a man and woman, turned into an apparent vehicular assault when the woman got out of the car and the man drove it into her, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident began about 7 a.m. Saturday in Laporte, when someone reported “a motor vehicle accident with an adult female trapped underneath a motor vehicle in the 3400 block of West County Road 54G in Laporte,” a sheriff’s office news release said.
Deputies arrested Joe Thompson, 22, at the scene. Thompson faces charges of first-degree assault, felony menacing, attempting to leave the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, child abuse, domestic violence and driving under restraint.
Thompson and the woman, who was taken to a hospital with serious bodily injuries, were arguing, when she asked to get out of the vehicle, the release said.
As she began to walk away, “she was struck by the vehicle and became trapped underneath” it.
Thompson attempted to leave the scene, but was restrained by rescuers, the release said.
A 2-year-old who was in the vehicle was unharmed.
