A 34-year-old Broomfield woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in the stabbing of her common-law husband.

Carmen Bermudez stabbed Nerio Pinales at their Broomfield home, in the 5000 block of West 126th Circle.

Bermudez was hiding in a dark room and ambushed Pinales, 45, after he returned to their home from working his second job at about 3 a.m.

During the attack, Bermudez punctured his liver and gall bladder.

The couple’s three children, then ages 13, 11 and 8, were inside the home at the time of the attack.
