A 45-year-old man was taken into Fountain police custody Tuesday and then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident unfolded about 10:40 a.m. when officers responded to a disturbance in the 1500 block of Prado Drive, according to a Colorado Springs Police Department news release.
Police came in contact with Jeremy Thompson, who was described as being uncooperative.
“While officers were placing Mr. Thompson in custody, he became unresponsive requiring medical intervention,” according to the release. Thompson was taken to a local hospital “where he was pronounced dead.”
The Colorado Springs Police Department violent crimes unit is investigating the in-custody death. The El Paso County coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death.
The names of the officers involved in the incident were not released Tuesday.
