UCLA’s Jackie Joyner-Kersee named athlete of the century

Colorado Buffaloes alumni Emma Coburn and Shalaya Kipp were named to the Pac-12 Women’s Track & Field All-Century Team.

Coburn and Kipp competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Coburn, originally from Crested Butte, was a six-time All-American. Kipp was a five-time All-America selection on the track and a four-time cross country All-American.

Of the 51 members of the team, two were selected from CU. UCLA led all schools with 17 selections.

Bob Kersee earned coach of the century honors, while Jackie Joyner-Kersee was named the athlete of the century.

Romano qualifies for U.S. Open Sectional. Northern Colorado sophomore Andrew Romano will compete in the U.S. Open Section Round for a spot in the U.S. Open from June 13-19.

Romano shot a 71 in the local qualifier at The Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor. If he gets one of the top spots in the sectionals, he will play in Oakmont, Pa.

Carey signs with Bears. Northern Colorado announced Tuesday it signed Kyle Carey of England to the Bears men’s basketball program.

Carey, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 19.1 points and 9.5 rebounds for Myerscough in the Elite Academy Basektball League last year. He was also on England’s U-18 team, averaging 14.4 points.

Colorado State football to host summer football camps. Colorado State head football coach Mike Bobo will be hosting several football camps this summer. Players of all ages will be able to attend these camps. The camps will be run by local staff and guests to improve player skills and techniques. Registration is now open for all camps.
