Getting your player ready...

The Northern Colorado Bears signed Roberto Vercellino of Italy to its men’s basketball team, the school announced Wednesday.

Vercellino is the third European player to join the Bears during the offseason, joining Kyle Carey (England) and Kai Edwards (Netherlands).

“We’re thrilled to have Roberto join the Bears family after a successful career so far in Italy,” Bears coach Jeff Linder said in a news release. “Roberto has had ample experience playing at a very high level with the Italian National Team for several years, and with his club in Bologna. He is a highly skilled forward that can do a little bit of everything offensively with his ability to shoot, pass and dribble.”

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound small forward is playing with Virtus Bologna in the Lega Basketbal Serie A league. Vercellino was a member of the Italian U-17 and U-18 national teams from 2012-15.

Tanner earns All-WAC honors. Bears junior Nick Tanner was named to the All-WAC baseball second team on Tuesday.

Tanner is the third UNC player to earn All-WAC honors. He batted a team-leading .364, driving in 10 runs and scoring 11. As a pitcher, he had a 3-1 record with 21 strikeouts and a 4.03 ERA.

Lee named All-American.
Colorado Buffaloes golfer Esther Lee was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American second team for the second straight year. She is the first two-time All-American in the program’s history.

“She is a very solid, consistent player and continues to set a high standard for CU women’s golf,” Buffaloes coach Anne Kelly said in a news release. “I’m excited to see what she can accomplish during her upcoming senior year.”
