Interview with Greg Olson, owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I’m a professional musician with a passion for music gear. I have 30-plus years’ sales, sales management, corporate management, marketing and finance experience. I’m also a 25-plus-year resident of Parker and saw the need for a full-service music store.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: There is no one else like Play It Again Music in Parker or Douglas County. We handle new and preowned music gear: guitar, bass, drums, percussion and keyboard. We’ll buy your old instrument or trade you up to your dream instrument. Buy, sell, trade or consign. Lessons for all ability levels. Coming soon: school band instruments! We pay cash for our inventory, have a low rent factor and minimal overhead. All this equates to unbeatable pricing.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: Getting the consumer what they need, want, desire and saving them money in doing so. Watching people’s musical journey start in our store or adding their dream. I also really enjoy the challenge of beating the bushes to find exceptional deals and passing the savings on to our customers.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Being everything to every musician. It’s impossible to carry everything available on the market and satisfy every need … but we’ll never stop trying!

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We’re not the “big box” guys. If we have what they carry, it will be priced significantly below them. If we do have what your looking for, better buy it now, because we may never see another one through our distributors. The big-box guys buy from the manufacturers, we buy from third-party distributors. These distributors get their inventory from stores that have closed, shelf pulls, factory seconds and semi loads of manufacturer overstock. These types of purchases are rarely offered to other stores, and we have to go out and locate these opportunities ourselves. When we do, we pay cash and have the item(s) in inventory right away!
