The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has called off a search for a family of five who were last seen Friday at a Boulder campsite.

Scott Hoyt, 41; Sabrina Hoyt, 34; and their three children had been reported missing Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office. A spokeswoman for the sheriff said by 4 p.m. Tuesday that the family “have been in contact with law enforcement.”

The family was last seen Friday above the Camp Dick Campground, west of Colorado 7 between Ward and Raymond, according to sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the family said “they ran out of gas and money and had difficulty getting home, that is why they were late.” The family was unaware of the search, because their cell phone batteries had died, a news release from the sheriff’s office added.

The family is safe and headed back to their residence in Weld County.
