A Jefferson County jury deliberated for less than two hours on Tuesday before finding a man guilty of a 44-year-old at his home in 2015.

The jury found Billy Edward Scott, 54, guilty of multiple charges, including one count of first-degree murder after deliberation, one count of first-degree felony murder, three counts of burglary and one count of menacing with a deadly weapon, according to a news release from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office.

On March 19, 2015,, 46, went to Troy Pitman’s Arvada home to discuss a bail bond issue.

Pitman had put up collateral for a woman who failed to appear for a court date, according to the release. Barrett, who was a licensed bail bond agent, testified during Scott’s trial that he came with her to act as protection.

Scott was also Barrett’s boyfriend and business partner.

During Scott’s trial, witnesses testified that when Scott and Barrett arrived at the home, Pitman was in the garage. Scott attacked Pitman in the garage, according to the release.

Pitman’s brother, who was also in the garage, tried to pull Scott away. The brother saw Barrett pointing a gun at both of them.

Scott then ran behind Barrett, put his arms around her, placed his hands over the gun and pulled the trigger. Pitman was shot once in the back and was killed.

Barrett pleaded guilty to accessory to murder and menacing in February. She will be sentenced on June 15.

Scott was also charged with habitual criminal counts and will return to court on June 13 for a trial.
