A fleeing bank robbery suspect was nabbed mid-morning Wednesday by FBI agents and members of Aurora’s SWAT team.
The suspect, Michael Harden, 35, fled the TCF Bank near East Quincy Avenue and South Buckley Road in a black Jeep at about 9:30 a.m. when the SWAT members heard the radio call of his escape, police said, and joined the pursuit. The team had been training nearby and were able to respond quickly, the FBI said.
Harden had been wearing a disguise during the robbery, police said.
Members of the FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force and Aurora police made the arrest in a parking garage about 15 minutes after the robbery.
The FBI said they’d been looking for a gunman who wore a disguise to rob Champions Bank in Parker in late January, and believe Harden might be responsible for both crimes. The robber in the earlier incident also ordered customers to the floor before taking off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The FBI said there were no injuries in either robbery and that Harden does not have a prior criminal history.
He is expected to be charged in federal court on armed robbery charges, each carrying a minimum seven-year prison term.
