Forget four outfielders, these Rockies play with two first basemen.
Colorado made an interesting and rather embarrassing error in the fifth inning against the Dodgers. As Los Angeles pitcher Kenta Maeda laid a sacrifice bunt down toward third base, Rockies’ Nolan Arenado grabbed the grounder but had two fielders to throw to.
: “Inexplicably, both second baseman DJ LeMahieu and first baseman Daniel Descalso were covering the first-base bag. LeMahieu caught the throw, but his foot was off the bag — and he was charged with the error. That loaded the bases with one out.”
Vin Scully said on the Dodgers’ broadcast: “Arenado’s only play is to first. There are two Rockies there and they miss the bag! Wow!”
But even with the bases loaded, Rockies starter Chris Rusin was able to get out of the inning unscathed. The Rockies would win 1-0.
