An alert public helped safety officials quickly find a 5-year-old boy, the focus of an Amber Alert, and reunite the child Friday with his mother.

The boy’s father, Nicholas Andrew Ptak, 28, was arrested in Sedgwick County a couple of hours after allegedly coaxing the child into an SUV at a Commerce City gas station and speeding away.

The boy was unharmed, according to a Commerce City Police Department media release.

The incident at the gas station happened at about 4:15 p.m. and an Amber Alert, to quickly help aid authorities in find the child, was issued at 6:23 p.m.

The alert was deactivated at 7:25 p.m. after the missing boy and his father were found safe.

An investigation is ongoing.
