Greeley police arrested a 55-year-old woman they say formed a suicide pact with her teenage daughter before they both swallowed large amounts of prescription pills.

The mother and daughter survived and were taken from their apartment to North Colorado Medical Center when a neighbor found a suicide note they’d left in her mailbox on June 3 and called 911.

The Tribune isn’t naming the mother to protect her juvenile daughter’s identity. The mother was charged by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office with criminal attempt to commit manslaughter. Colorado law makes it a crime to intentionally cause or aid someone committing suicide.

Court documents say the mother and daughter made the suicide pact together and planned for weeks. The daughter told police it was her idea they commit suicide, but the mother suggested they use her prescription for muscle relaxers and sleeping pills.
