A wave of heat is keeping temperatures high across the state this weekend, and could push records on Sunday.

Saturday’s high temperature in the Denver area should climb to about 94 degrees according to the National Weather Service, approximately 10 degrees higher than average for this time of year.

Sunday, temperatures will climb higher to about 97 degrees, threatening the record temperature for June 18, which is 98 degrees set in 1989.

The dry heat is not yet prompting red flag warnings because of the early spring moisture.

“We’re keeping an eye on it,” said Nezette Rydell, meteorologist for the weather service. “It’s been slow to dry out but a few more days of this and we could be seeing those conditions in a few locations.”

Smoke from those fires and others in neighboring states , and has prompted another alert from the Colorado Department for Public Health and Environment until at least 4 p.m. Sunday for sensitive people.
