A brush fire in Garfield County has already consumed one residence and about 25-30 acres of land, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was first reported about 1 p.m. Sunday near County Road 320, and was visible from Interstate 70 near the Rulison exit at mile-marker 82, according to police.

A helicopter was ordered to conduct “water lifts and drops” from the Colorado River about 1:30 p.m., and single-engine aircraft tankers have also been ordered to assist in containing the fire.

The one residence that was lost in the early stages of the fire resulted in no injuries to people or animals, but some road closures have been initiated in the area.

The fire continues to burn in a northeasterly direction and is currently being held by an old fire line from a previous burn in the area, according to police.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
