Nello Alpine Aspen, located in the Residences at the Little Nell complex, is or has been the subject of three lawsuits, three small-claims cases and is the reason why six businesses have filed liens against the owner of the restaurant space totaling more than $300,000 in the past five months, according to records.
While it was unclear Friday exactly when the restaurant closed, . On Friday, workers were setting up the space for a Food & Wine Classic event.
Efforts to reach famed Manhattan restaurateur and his daughter, Lucy Balan, were not successful Friday. However, general manager Lenny Lorando said in a text message that Nello would re-open July 15.
The largest lawsuit against Nello Balan and his company was filed Thursday by Regan Construction Inc., which claims it is owed $240,836 for work done on the space last fall. The company says it “fast-tracked the work” so the restaurant could be open by Christmas, according to the lawsuit.
