A raccoon suffering wounds from an illegal trap in Longmont was euthanized Tuesday afternoon, a Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center rehabilitator said.

Lea Peshock said the raccoon’s cupped and curled paw was found that morning to be missing enough skin after tissue had died for the bones and muscles to show, prompting wildlife specialists to make the fateful decision.

“They looked like little mummy fingers,” Peshock said.
