One person was hurt as fireworks caused two houses to catch fire Tuesday night in the 2500 block of South Carson Way in Aurora.
The fire started as a result of fireworks being set off between the houses. The Aurora Fire Department arrived at 6:10 p.m. and declared the fire under control about 15 minutes later.
The injured person was taken to a hospital, according to the fire department, and five people were displaced. The Red Cross was on the scene about 8:50 p.m. to assist them with finding shelter. Four were from one house, and one was from the other.
Tony Krenz, public information officer for the fire department, emphasized that personal use of fireworks is illegal in Aurora.
“It doesn’t matter if it takes a lighter or a match. You could be charged up to $2,600 in fines or charged with arson if you light (a building) on fire.”
