A man was sentenced Thursday in Adams County court to 26 years in prison for the 2013 death of his 3-month-old son, .

Martin Fernando Holguin Jr. 25, to child abuse resulting in death.

Holguin a month after his son, Aiden Martin Holguin, died after being found with a fractured skull and other head trauma. The infant was unresponsive when discovered by Aurora police officers called to a home in September 2013 on the 1600 block of North Hanover Street.

Aiden was taken to Children’s Hospital Colorado and later died.

Authorities say Holguin gave to police several versions of how Aiden was injured, including that he became stressed by his son’s crying and “head-butted” the infant.

“Aiden had his whole life ahead of him and now we will never know what potential he held and what he would have become. These cases are the most sad and tragic cases that we prosecute.” 17th Judicial District Attorney Dave Young said in a statement.

The district attorney’s office said Aiden’s mother was working when the fatal abuse happened.
