I can no longer stay silent about black men being murdered by police officers. I can no longer pretend it is not happening. I can no longer say this is not a race issue, because it is a race issue. The black man in Minnesota was stopped for a broken rear taillight. He informed the officer he had a gun, which he had a permit to carry concealed. It is his Second Amendment right. If he had been a white man, I wouldn’t be writing this letter. He wouldn’t have been shot four times, with a 4-year-old child in the car.

I am a white woman. I hate guns. I wish guns weren’t so prevalent, but they are. This is no longer an issue that black people must bear alone. We all must get involved and demand that police, right-wing conservatives and Donald Trump supporters start to treat all people with humanity. No matter what color their skin is, no matter what religion they practice.
