LAS VEGAS — The process isn’t random in the slightest.

When Colorado State coach Mike Bobo picked players to represent his program at the Mountain West media days this week, he wanted well-spoken student-athletes, leaders who have earned their way via the work they’ve put in on and off the field.

In Kevin Davis and Nolan Peralta, Bobo highlighted “character guys,” players on his team who hold a well-earned reputation with the coaching staff and their peers. Yet, their appearance still was part of the grooming process for two seniors who aren’t exactly the most vocal on the Rams roster.

Itap all very important to Bobo, who once again reiterated his main point as the next season approaches in how he expects his team to function as a group.

“The difference between good and great, I think, is if you’re player-led or coach-led,” Bobo said.

He admits it was hard last year, because with the top echelon of the coaching hierarchy being new to the program, the players first had to learn what the new expectations were before they could be well advised in the course to set for their teammates. Change requires time, adjustment.
