Lakewood police shot a man late Sunday night after he refused to put down his gun before leaving an apartment.
The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release by Ty Countryman, Lakewood police spokesman.
Police were called to the Windsor Apartment complex in the 8100 block of West Eastman Place at 10:15 p.m. on a gun menacing call.
A witness told police that when they were leaving a party a man chased them with a gun.
When police arrived they searched the apartments for the man wielding a gun, according to the news release.
They soon found the armed man inside an apartment and began negotiating with him.
But police say the man refused to leave the apartment without the gun. Police shot the man as he left the apartment still armed with the gun.
An investigation is just beginning into the police-involved shooting, according to Countryman.
