A woman has been sentenced to 10 days in jail for leaving her two young children alone in September and which left the pair injured.

Rocio Arroyo-Reyes, 31, had pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse resulting in serious injury in the case. She was also ordered to serve four years on probation.

Prosecutors announced the sentence on Monday.

Arroyo-Reyes left her children — ages 3 and 5 — unsupervised at a home in southwest Denver , authorities say. Firefighters rushed into the building on the 300 block of South Eliot Street and found the two.

At the time of the blaze, fire officials say the two children were thought to be hiding when firefighters found them because they were in an “inconspicuous place” inside the home.
