There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. in the city, though skies beforehand are expected to be mostly sunny.

“Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over the east slopes of the mountains and Palmer Divide region early this afternoon,” the weather service said in a Friday forecast bulletin. “A few of these storms will move over the plains by later in the afternoon through early evening. Expect brief rain, small hail and gusty winds with the stronger storms.”

Temperatures are expected to stay relatively cool in Denver over the weekend, with a high of 83 degrees expected on Saturday and a high of 86 degrees forecast for Sunday. The weather service is calling for mostly sunny skies over both days.
