Castle Rock nonprofit organizations have until Aug. 31 to apply for up to $40,000 in grant funding through the .
Five organizations will be selected to receive the grants. The funding will be awarded in early 2017, according to a Town of Castle Rock news release.
Applicants must outline how their programs or projects help people in need of assistance with water, food, energy or shelter, officials say. The greater focus is on efforts that improve the overall health or safety of the Castle Rock community.
Applications are available online at and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Aug. 31. The deadline was extended beyond its original Aug. 1 date.
The grants process is being coordinated by Castle Rock finance department. Applications will be reviewed the town’s public safety commission, which will then make recommendations to the Town Council. Council members will choose the grantees.
