Denver police arrested a man suspected of a string of bank robberies after they responded to a call reporting a person with a weapon Monday.
Police contacted Shawn Scott, 42, at Sixth Avenue, and Osage Street, when they responded to the call.
An officer fired a shot in that confrontation. Scott was taken to a hospital for evaluation, but it doesn’t appear he was injured.
“Due to his actions yesterday, he is also being held for investigation of attempted murder, attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and investigation of two additional armed robberies,” police said of Monday’s incident.
Scott was already wanted on three counts of armed robbery and failure to appear on a charge of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
He was wanted for a robbery spree that began in May, at a U.S. Bank at 1248 S. Broadway. He is suspected of four other bank robberies in the Denver area, the last on Aug. 23 at a TCF Bank at 2084 S. Broadway.
Witnesses to several of the robberies said he wore a wig and a baseball cap.
