Christy Sports, the Rocky Mountain specialty ski and snowboard retailer with more than 50 locations born from a single store on West Colfax Avenue in 1958, is pushing into the Pacific Northwest with its acquisition of Washington’s venerable Sturtevantap, Ski Mart and annual sale event .
The owners of the privately held, Lakewood-based Christy Sports are longtime pals with the owners of Sturtevantap, which will open a new flagship store in Bellevue, Wash., in October.
“We hold very similar values,” said Christy Sports spokesman Randy England. “It quickly became obvious over the course of our relationship that this would be a good synergy.”
Christy gains three locations in Washington and the annual tented ski sale not unlike Christy Sports’ . England said the undisclosed deal “allows opportunities for growth” for both Christy Sports and Sturtevantap, which ranks as the largest specialty snow sports retailer in Washington. Christy Sports will keep the existing leaders in place at Sturtevantap.
“We strongly believe the combined culture and direction of our two companies will blend together very well to make each of us stronger together and individually,” Sturtevant’s president Tracy Gibbons said in a statement.
