Police are searching for a man after a woman reported that she fought off an assailant who grabbed her from behind on the University of Colorado campus early Sunday.

The woman was walking near the intersection of 17th Street and University Avenue in Boulder, just north of Macky Auditorium, at about 1 a.m.,  when she noticed a man walking behind her, according to a CU police release.

“The suspect put his arm around the victim. After the victim rejected the suspect, the suspect grabbed the victim’s shirt and pulled the victim to the ground,” the release said.

She fought him off, and he ran away, heading south toward the auditorium.

The suspect is described as a college-age black man, 6-foot-1 or 6-foot-2 with an average build, a mustache and a small, shaggy beard. He was wearing a CU sweatshirt and long pants.

Campus police are investigating. Anyone with information can call police at 303-492-6666.
