Fort Collins police arrest teacher, coach on suspicion of sexually assaulting child relative

Police in Fort Collins say they have arrested a man who has worked as an elementary school teacher and kids gymnastics coach on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child relative.

Dean Allen McCollum, 44, was taken into custody on Wednesday on the charges of sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and aggravated incest. The accusations are all Class 3 felonies.

The abuse reportedly occurred between approximately 2001 and 2006, according to police.

Police say McCollum has worked as a teacher at Bauder Elementary School and as a coach at Mountain Kids Gymnastics in Fort Collins.

“Anyone who feels they may have been victimized by him is encouraged to contact Fort Collins Police Detective Tessa Jakobsson at 970-221-6575,” Fort Collins police said in a news release.

McCollum is listed as a 4th grade teacher at Bauder and his school profile says he is married with two adult step-sons. The profile also says McCollum coaches competitive boys gymnastics.
