Re: Oct. 6 endorsement.
The Denver Post’s endorsement of Mike Coffman left out any reference to his striking 2012 comment at a fundraiser, “I don’t know whether Barack Obama was born in the United States of America. … But I do know this, that in his heart, he’s not an American. He’s just not an American.”
When confronted with the comment, his response was, “I misspoke and I apologize.” Certainly, Coffman knew at the time what his comments meant, particularly given the ongoing explosive nature of the birtherism narrative.
Your failure to reference this past behavior of Coffman in your endorsement seems to be a glaring omission. It certainly calls into question the assessment of his ability to “exercise judgment.”
