Re: Oct. 11 Desmond Tutu column.
A personal story to follow up on Desmond Tutu’s poignant article on aid in dying:
My father was a respected physician who came to this country from Hungary after World War II. He practiced his art of healing for more than 30 years until virulent prostate cancer decimated his body. One of the last things he said to me was, “You realize that they are not prolonging my life, they are prolonging my death!” He and my family would have been spared three horrific months of agony with the option that Proposition 106 will give us.
We try to live all our lives with control and dignity, only to have it vanish when we do not have options at this most important juncture we all face. Please grant those suffering, and their loved ones, a modicum of control and much-needed comfort. Proposition 106 will do just that.
