The Lafayette-based Flatirons Community Church has closed on a new Denver location, one that will serve as the ever-growing church’s third site as it shifts its downtown operations from the Paramount Theater.

The new facility will occupy the vacant church space of what was once Denver South Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 2700 S. Downing St. It was purchased for roughly $1.2 million as the church’s lease with the Paramount Theater came to a close, according to church leaders.

“It’s just a really good neighborhood location for us that we are excited to be in,” Michael Koehn, Flatirons’ chief financial officer, said. “Denver is the fastest-growing big city in the U.S., and we felt like God was calling us to be a part of that community.”

When services begin — church leaders hope that date will be Dec. 11 — the 400-seat church will serve as Flatirons’ smallest locale.

Despite the scaled-back site, the megachurch, which boasts an average weekly attendance of roughly 17,500, has continually outgrown its space during the past 15 years as its rapid expansion has fueled the need for larger venues.
