With the Cleveland Indians in the World Series this year, the long-running controversy over the team’s name and its mascot, Chief Wahoo, has raised its caricatured head again.

Hundreds of American Indian activists protested outside of Cleveland’s Progressive Field during Game 1 of the World Series Tuesday night. They were expected to protest again during Wednesday night’s game.

Chief Wahoo — a red-faced Indian with a huge grin and a feather on its head — has been has been the team’s mascot since 1947, which happens to be the year before Cleveland last won the World Series.

Those who oppose the logo and the team name believe they are offensive and belittling to American Indians.

What do you think? Are the protesters right? Vote in our poll.
