Re: Oct. 21 endorsement.

Alice Madden
Former state Rep. Alice Madden is running for CU regent at-large, which would govern the law center that named her executive director.

The Denver Post’s endorsement of regent candidate Heidi Ganahl as one “who can maintain the Republican [36-year] hold on the CU Board of Regents” smacked of knee-jerk partisanship. While the editorial briefly praised Alice Madden’s strong qualifications for this seat, it expressed greater interest in retaining a GOP majority.

Coloradans need to be able to compare and contrast candidates’ records. The editorial did not mention that Madden has bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Colorado, practiced civil rights law, worked in the U.S. Department of Energy, and has directed programs at CU’s law school.

Nor did the editorial point out that, having served as Colorado House majority leader, Madden has the experience to increase state support of CU’s research and teaching as well as to help students of all ethnic and socioeconomic groups.

Madden’s leadership is exactly what makes her such an attractive candidate. Ignore partisan rhetoric. Vote for Alice Madden.
