Re: Oct. 20 letter to the editor.
ColoradoCare may not be good for retired major generals, such as letter-writer Philip K. Russell, but that does not mean it is not good for lower-paid veterans. A retired major generalreceives Social Security pay and military retirement pay, neither of which are taxed by ColoradoCare. They receive Medicare and Tricare for Life, meaning their only medical expenses are about $2,500 per year for Part B, if married (spouses get the same medical coverage) and therefore do not need ColoradoCare. They would be taxed only on non-payroll income from investments and any pay from being self-employed. Most veterans are not in the same financial position as retired major generals. Unless they are over 65 andreceive Social Security payments and Medicare, and are retired military andget Tricare for Life (pays for co-pays), ColoradoCare will be financially good for them, and for all Coloradans. If medical costs rise, so will insurance premiums.
