A Western Slope truck driver has been convicted of attempted murder in Adams County stemming from a Commerce City truck stop shooting.

Byron Wayne Linton, 64, was convicted Thursday of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault in the shooting of a UPS delivery driver, according to an Adams County district attorney’s news release.

The shooting happened on Oct. 29, 2015, at a Sapp Brothers Truck Stop. The victim, Keith Williams, 24, of Denver was filling his car’s tires with air when Linton started a confrontation, prosecutors said.

Williams was getting into his car to leave when an argument escalated and ended with the victim being shot in the abdomen.

A jury deliberated for less than three hours before convicting Linton on both counts, the news release said.

Linton is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 12.
