The Electoral College is an outdated and unnecessary relic. Its process is arcane, bizarre, byzantine and fundamentally undemocratic.
Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by more than 200,000 votes, but Donald Trump became the president elect because the Electoral College did not reflect the votes of the people. By what right are the votes of the people ignored? If the people may be ignored, what need does the government have of the people?
It is time the Congress did something about this, but I won’t hold my breath. The election of 2000 should have taught Congress something, but as usual they didn’t get the message.
