This was all Von Miller’s doing.
On Wednesday, the Broncos released their response to the Mannequin Challenge, that latest Internet sensation in which people stand motionless, as if they’re, well, mannequins.
The Pittsburgh Steelers joined the trend last week, , and the Ի soon followed.
The Broncos, while a few days behind, weren’t going to pass up on the opportunity. So Miller went to work.
“Yup, that was me,” he said. “There’s no way that you can organize 53 guys without somebody getting it together, but that was me. Unfortunately we were a week late — about a week and a half late. I wanted to do it a whole lot earlier, but it turned out great. The people loved it.”
Cornerback Aqib Talib, with a wadded ball of paper tethered to his fingers, stood in mid-shot, with Kayvon Webster’s hand in his face. Receiver Emmanuel Sanders sat in a tipped-over laundry bin, with his hand extended for Jordan Taylor’s assistance. Safety Will Parks sat on a table, frozen while pouring hot sauce on a plate of food. Many others were caught mid-selfie, many more were caught simply staring at their phones.
Among the few not included in the shot was Miller.
“He got all of the guys to do their poses and went through and recorded the locker room,” DeMarcus Ware explained.”
The production, Miller said, gave him a new outlook on the daily challenges his coaches face in organizing practices and meetings.
“I said that from the get-go,” Miller said, laughing. “They asked me, ‘Von, do you every see yourself coaching?’ And I’m like, you know what, I have a new-found appreciation for all of our coaches because itap hard to get 27-year-olds and 25-year-olds to listen right now. Listen to what we’re talking about, this is important, in four days we’re going to be tested on this stuff. Some guys — itap just hard with some guys.”
