Re: Nov. 22 news story.
While I support the tradition of having a Westerner lead the Department of Interior, I couldn’t imagine a less suited candidate than Bob Beauprez. I was shocked to learn his name is even being considered given his strong support recently for selling off our national public lands to the highest bidder.
The consequences are high and it would open the door to allow states to close access to much of Colorado’s iconic landscapes or have to auction them off to the highest bidder for private development when the state cannot handle the costs of managing these lands, including fighting wildfires.
Recent polls have found 98 percent of Coloradans believe it is important to protect national forests, national monuments, wildlife refuges and other national public lands for future generations.
We have a shared responsibility to protect access to America’s parks, public lands and wildlife for our children and grandchildren by keeping public lands in public hands. It’s obvious Beauprez is out of touch with the West’s ideals.
