A Fort Carson soldier served several tours of duty overseas has been sentenced to 26 years in prison in Colorado Springs, prosecutors say.
Fernando Rosales, 34, was convicted in August of second-degree murder in the slaying of 30-year-old Sean Michael Crescentini. The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office says the sentence was handed down on Friday.
Rosales was a Fort Carson sergeant who had completed three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning the Army Commendation Medal and high marks from supervisors, who called him “selfless” and “among the best.”
Judge Thomas Kane has sentenced Fernando Rosales to 26 years in prison for the August 2015 2nd degree murder of Sean Crescentini.

The stabbing happened early on Aug. 15, 2015, on the 2500 block of Prescott Circle West. Officers called out to the scene found Crescentini injured before he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Police said at the time that Crescentini and Rosales had been involved in a “disturbance.” Crescentini died of stab wounds.
The Gazette says prosecutors had asked that Rosales be sentenced to 35 years in prison. Colorado Department of Corrections records show Rosales is in the process of being placed into a state prison.
