Bundle up today in Denver, but don’t expect the chill to last.

The National Weather Service predicts a mostly cloudy day Wednesday with a high that won’t climb above freezing, but temperatures are expected to rebound Thursday and hit the high 50s.

Temperatures will stay warmer on Friday, with a high of 48 degrees, before the cold returns on Friday night with the low temperature expected to drop to 1 degree.

“There will be a good, sharp change on Friday night with colder Canadian air moving in,” said Kyle Frieden, NWS meteorologist.

Snow likely will begin to fall Friday night, but accumulation is expected to be small, Frieden said.

The Denver metro is expected to remain cold through the weekend. The high Saturday will only be about 6 degrees and there’s a 30 percent chance for snow. The low Saturday night will drop to minus 9. Sunday’s high is expected to be 21 degrees.

The forecast also calls for periods of snow through Saturday in the mountains, where a winter weather advisory remains in place until 5 a.m. Thursday.
