Airlines canceled about 145 flights in and out of Denver Thursday, which has the airport reminding travelers to check the status of their flights before trying to reach Denver International Airport.
The cancellations are less than 10 percent of the approximately 1,500 daily flights coming and going from DIA, airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said early Thursday morning. About half of the cancellations are small commuter flights.
“The airport is currently in the middle of a big snow storm,” Montgomery said. “We are going to be that way until at least mid-day today.”
Starting to get busy at DEN, planes are being deiced.

Peña Boulevard is slick and ice-packed in some areas, he cautioned. The Interstate 70 flyover to Peña Boulevard is extremely icy and traffic is very slow.
“So if you are driving out to the airport use extra caution. Do leave extra early,” Montgomery said.
All the ramps and runways at the airport are open. All of DIA’s snow work crews are out, he said.
“Overall, we’re having a pretty normal morning,” Montgomery said. “We are expecting to pick up steam around 7 o’clock this morning. So, we’ll start to get busy.”
The snow is expected to taper off in the middle of the day, he said.
“We’re expecting to have a relatively tame afternoon,” Montgomery said. “We’ll see what the morning does.”
