Grab the binoculars, kids. It’s birding time.
The Bird Conservancy is hosting its fifth Christmas Bird Count for Kids on Jan. 16 at Barr Lake State Park, where more than 350 bird species have been spotted.
Participants, who must be seven years or older, go on 90-minute hikes around the park with local birding experts. Kids between the ages of three and six can participate in Budding Birders Camp.
Young birders found 35 species and counted more than 7,000 individual birds at last year’s event.
The event mimics a National Audubon Society’s larger Christmas Bird Count for adults that has tens of thousands of participant.
The event costs $3 per person on top of a $7 per vehicle state park entrance fee. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Find more information about registering at .
