Grab the binoculars, kids. It’s birding time.
The Bird Conservancy is hosting its fifth Christmas Bird Count for Kids on Jan. 16 at Barr Lake State Park, where more than 350 bird species have been spotted.
Participants, who must be 7 years or older, go on 90-minute hikes around the park with local birding experts. Kids 3 to 6 can participate in Budding Birders Camp.
Young birders found 35 species and counted more than 7,000 birds at last year’s event.
The event mimics the National Audubon Society’s larger Christmas Bird Count for adults, which has tens of thousands of participants.
The event costs $3 per person in addition to a $7 per vehicle state park entrance fee. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Find more information about registering at .
