Peter Steeves, who become an animal control officer so he could help dogs, has a heart for the hard cases.
Steeves recently adopted a blind blue heeler who was abandoned when its owners were evicted. When he took the dog to the Weld County Humane Society, he knew it would be hard to find a home for the dog.
The shelter contacted Cindy Hungen, who runs a small rescue operation with foster homes and has a thing for cattle dogs. She placed the dog in a foster home, but noticed the way Steeves visited whenever he had a chance, and the way the heeler responded to him. So she continually reminded Steeves the dog was still available.
But Steeves and his wife, Tricia, had already adopted three hard-to-place dogs. When Steeves called to ask her about adding a fourth, she replied that three was already a lot.
So he texted her a photo. Bring him home, she replied.
