Slick conditions have caused traffic crashes across Boulder County and forced closures on the Boulder Turnpike and North Foothills Highway.

At around 10:30 a.m. today, police responded to a 12-car pileup on Boulder-bound U.S. 36 near the Foothills Parkway exit, though first responders could not initially tell whether it was one crash or multiple crashes.

Two people are being transported from the scene, according to police radio traffic.

Due to the crash and icy road conditions caused by what one dispatcher referred to as an “ice storm,” crews shut down westbound U.S. 36 from the McCaslin Boulevard on-ramp in Louisville to the Foothills exit in Boulder.

The city of Boulder and Boulder County are currently on accident alert.
