Mostly sunny skies are forecast for the Denver metro area after a chilly night in which the wind chill index dropped below zero.

The high temperature on Thursday will almost make it to just below freezing at 31 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Light snow is expected in the mountains with less than an inch of new accumulation, the NWS predicts. It will be windy on the Eastern Plains with gusts up to 30 mph.

On Thursday night wind chill factor will make it feel like minus 5 degrees.

Temperatures will rise to 36 degrees under mostly sunny skies on Friday, the NWS predicts. On Friday night the low temperature will be 17 degrees as southwest winds gusting up to 16 degrees flow through Colorado.

It gets warmer on the weekend with a high of around 45 degrees on Saturday and a high of 53 on Sunday under mostly sunny skies.

Sunshine will prevail through the middle of next week with highs ranging from the low-to-mid 50s, weather forecasters predict.
