An icy commute with freezing rain, scattered snow and black ice on the roads is expected Friday morning in the Denver metro area.

The slick roads triggered an accident alert in Aurora, where police are dealing with an multi-car injury crash at Parker Road and Belleview Avenue, according to a 6:30 a.m. Aurora police tweet.

By Friday afternoon temperatures will begin to climb back up into the 40s and by the weekend balmy winter weather is forecast, according to meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Patchy fog is expected before 7 a.m. A wind change from a northerly to southerly direction will help boost temperatures to around 41 degrees in the afternoon.

The coldest part of Friday night will be around 8 p.m., when the temperature dips to below freezing at around 30. But a southwest wind will raise temperatures to about 37 degrees after midnight, weather forecasters predict.

The mountains will get between 2 and 5 inches of snow Friday in the higher elevations. It will be very windy with gusts between 40 to 60 mph.

It will be mostly sunny on the weekend, with a high of 58 degrees Saturday and 57 on Sunday, NWS forecasters predict. By Monday the high could reach 59 degrees.

Temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid 50s Tuesday through Thursday. There is a slight chance of snow Tuesday night, NWS forecasters say.
