A suspected hit-and-run driver is in custody Tuesday morning after hitting a power transformer outside Denver International Airport and fleeing the scene, Denver Police said.

Police chased the vehicle after it left the scene of the accident and caught the suspect at 144th Avenue and Haysmount Road, said John White, Denver Police Department spokesman.

“Due to the damage to the transformer, the Frontier hanger lost power, and so did the United hangar,” according to a DIA spokeswoman.

Power has been restored to the Frontier hangar. The United hangar remains on backup power.

The accident happened at about 7:20 a.m.
